Water Reuse Week

Water Reuse Week 2026 ran from the 14th–20th September this year. Our national campaign wanted to raise awareness of the importance of saving and reusing water. Everyone, from large organisations to individual households, played a part, even beyond Water Reuse Week.

You can read on to see some of the things we did to raise awareness, and also learn about how you can do your part!

School visit in Nottinghamshire

Great to hear about the visit which was undertaken by Lisa Craven of Stormsaver Ltd during Water Reuse Week. Lisa visited a local primary school in Nottinghamshire where she gave an educational talk which aimed to raise awareness of water scarcity and water reuse to inspire the next generation of water conservationists.

Water Reuse Week in Parliament

We were pleased to welcome MPs and their staff to the launch of Water Reuse Week. A big thank you to Lee Pitcher MP for hosting the event and to Dr. Julia Buckley for all her help also. The launch brought people together behind an important campaign. We want to see all new buildings reusing water by 2030.

By making water reuse part of the conversation from the earliest stages of design, we can help build a future where this precious resource is used more wisely. We want to bring policymakers, developers, industry professionals and communities into that conversation and turn support for water reuse into practical progress.

School visit in Ireland

We were delighted to see David Anderson from Kingspan Group go into a school in Ireland to deliver a lesson. David used our school pack to teach the children about Water Reuse during hashtag#waterreuseweek. At the end of the session 90 pupils were awarded with a certificate.

Thank you David for sharing and congratulations to the pupils for earning eco credits. This will now become an annual event!

Water Reuse Online Conference

And we are off!

Thank you so much to Dr. Julia Buckley for agreeing to be our Keynote Speaker. We are looking forward to working alongside Julia to ensure that Water Reuse is high on the agenda for Government.

Our campaign to make Water Reuse mandatory in all new buildings from 2030 is gathering steam and we hope you will add your name to the campaign which will be presented to the national governments later this year.

Water Reuse in the Senedd

Thank you so much to the Senedd in Wales for hosting our Water Reuse Week Launch today. Great to hear from the Minister Llyr Gryffydd who is supporting Water Reuse Week. We are looking forward to writing to him this week to continue the engagement at his request.

Thank you to the Members of the Senedd who popped along to see us, and their staff teams. There was a lot of support for our campaign for mandatory water reuse in all new buildings from 2030.

What you can do to help

Schools

Schools can access the online resources. Schools can also encourage pupils to design water saving posters, conduct water audits at school or potentially to create a rain garden. Pupils will be encouraged to take part in the national poster design competition.

To give you some ideas to help pupils grasp the importance of water reuse, you can download a free Water Reuse activity pack for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 levels in primary school here.

Individuals and families

Everyone at home can make simple, powerful changes by doing the following:

Collecting rainwater for gardening using water butts,
Reusing water where safe – such as using cooled pasta cooking water to water plants,
Installing water-saving devices, like dual flush systems or aerated shower heads,
Turning off the tap while brushing teeth,
Fixing leaks promptly – even a dripping tap can waste litres a day,
Spreading the word on social media to raise awareness and encourage others to act.

Klargester

Klargester

At Klargester, we had water saving banners and posters up in our office to get oursevles into the mood. We promoted Rainwater Harvesting during the lead up to and during the week.

We then hosted an assembly at our local primary school and gifted a water saving system for their vegetable patch and flower garden. We also provided water saving posters to be put up at the school.

Then we had a really exciting visit to Parliament!

We held an water saving quiz in our office to spread awareness and test our knowledge, and we even ordered our employees reusable water bottles.

Stormsaver

At Stormsaver HQ, we set up a 'water reuse station' as part of our 'fill the bucket' competition.

We held a CPD session in Cambridge, conducted by one of our technical estimators.

We also led an assembly at a local primary school, raising awareness for the importance of water reuse.

Aqua-lity

Aquality took visitors to Clay Farm in Cambridge, a residential development consisting of 208 homes and commercial accommodation. This site is home to the UK's first communal stormwater harvesting project delivered by Aquality and AECOM.

Rainwater and run-off from roofs and hardstanding areas are collected, treated and then used for WC flushing. Thanks to the water reuse systems employed, an estimated mains water saving of 20-25 litres per person per day can be achieved.

A presentation was also given to increase awareness of the need for water reuse.
