Roadmap

Here at the UKWRA we believe that water reuse is crucial to securing our future water supplies. This will mean that water reuse will become mainstream in the UK through mandating its installation within new buildings. Of course, we need to implement this safely, at scale and with the correct regulatory environment.

Currently, the UK regulatory environment is unfavourable for widespread implementation of reuse technologies. We are calling on the UK Government to make the necessary changes to legislation to ensure we are on a level playing field with other leading economies.

With this in mind, we have proposed a working roadmap to introduce mandatory water reuse in the UK by 2030. We believe this is realistic and will help us to meet our future water needs.

This roadmap outlines UKWRA’s proposal to mandate water reuse in new buildings by 2030, addressing regulatory barriers and highlighting the role of reuse in flood resilience and water security.
